I am a teacher in the lower elementary class! During my tour of the Montessori classrooms several years ago while seeking a preschool for our daughter, I became so taken with the Montessori approach and philosophy that I decided not only to have my child enter into the program but to change the direction of my teaching career. I have taken the Lower and Upper Elementary Montessori Training and am certified in both.
Prior to assisting at Hawk Meadow, I taught sixth grade in Webutuck for 13 years, with many of those years as the English teacher in a middle school setting. I earned my Masters at the University of New Hampshire, with an emphasis on the writing process and the teaching of reading and writing using the workshop approach. The individualized, student-centered workshop-style classroom is very conducive to creating an environment filled with engaged readers and writers, and it is so similar to the Montessori approach that the transition from sixth grade to the Montessori classroom has felt very natural.
I’m a lifelong resident of the area with occasional periods of time living in upstate New York, New Hampshire and Alaska. It’s great to live here surrounded by family and friends, both old and new.
